The image above is a daily travel photo of a Northern Thai curry Khao Soi, we tried while eating lunch at a restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This Burmese influenced dish found in Northern Thailand is one of the top foods to try while visiting places such as Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Pai.  This dish features a delicious array of ingredients, including deep fried crispy egg noodles, boiled rice noodles, lime, chillies, tofu, and pickled cabbage in coconut milk based curry sauce.  As one of the most popular dishes in Northern Thailand – both on the street and in restaurants – it’s surprising that it is challenging to find this dish in other regions of the country or abroad.  Our favorite version  Khao Soi, since we’ve settled in Chiang Mai, is a tie between Chang Chalaad Restaurant and Peppermint Cafe.  If we find more great options to eat Khao Soi, we’ll post them here.  This is a travel photo my Northern Thai food gallery.  To view more images from this gallery click on the delicious Khao Soi above.

Looks delicious! Sadly, I’ve never heard of this dish before, but I’ll be on the lookout for it, especially once I head back to Thailand.

Mmmmm this dish was one of our favorite discoveries in Chiang Mai. We had a good version at Aroon Rai, which also has homemade milk tea ice cream.

I don’t think I got to try this while I was in Chiang Mai. Have to look for it next time.
