PHOTO: Man at the market in Amman

Today’s daily feature travel image from the Middle East is a shot of a Jordanian man wearing a Keffiyeh shopping for goods at the market in Amman, Jordan.

While at the central market in Amman (also known as a ‘souk’) I encountered many distinct faces wandering through the crowded aisles.

Men yelled out trying to sell lush produce, dates and other items.

Often it was challenging to move as crowds and commotion brought movement to a standstill.

In order to capture photos, I often just lingered behind our group and rested anonymously at the side of local stalls.

As tourists we were offered items such as water and cigarettes; however, the hassle level was relatively low compared to countries in SE Asia.

I was able to capture quite a few candid portraits during our brief time at the market.

Beautiful, as always. He looks very serious, like some decision really has a hold on him.

There’s not much more of an authentic experience than being in a fresh market like the one you mention. Great shot too!

My friend just came back from Jordan, she wrote a whole story about it on my blog.
they have a beautiful Citadel there.

Language barrier is an issue though.

It’s always amazing how much spirit can be captured when a candid photo is taken. Well done!

It’s always amazing how much spirit can be captured when a candid photo is taken. I often like to go to markets alone so I can casually disappear into the hustle and bustle to catch shots like this. Well done!

I just researched ‘keffiyeh’ and learned a lot! Thanks Sam! Oh, in picture 47, do you know what type of spice that is?
