Welcome to Volume VI of the Top 100 Travel blogs! I know it’s been a while since the last update!  For a period of time, I was updating the list almost monthly; however, recently I’ve been taking on so many different projects that I’ve let this slide a couple of weeks than I would have liked.  Anyhow, there has been a lot of change since the last update in terms of sites both moving up and down and also the amount of sites now being tracked. With regards to the latest SEOmoz update (October 9th) it was quite a volatile one for travel blogs.  A number of sites plummeted several points while almost an equal number sky-rocketed up several digits.  For those sites that held steady or increased/decreased by only one point, I would consider that holding the fort steady. Overall Alexa rankings seem to be rising (in this case not a good thing) for the majority of travel blogs.  Roughly 6 months ago there were a decent amount of sites under 50K but now there are only 9 below this mark; however, the amount of sites still under 100K is just as many as ever and that’s quite an encouraging sign. There were a number of new sites added to the tracking list this time around.  I’m now tracking so many sites (almost an unmanageable number) that I’ve decided to also list the top 101 to 150 sites on this page.  Once again, for those sites who fall off the list don’t get discouraged.  I’m still tracking your blog.  The competition between sites ranked 75 to 150 is fiercer than it is between those ranked 1 to 25. On this update I’ve tracked 164 sites meaning every category is now ranked out of a possible 164 points all the way down to 1.

Alexa is the ranking system that measures a travel blog’s traffic.  The following is a cut & paste explanation straight from the source:

“Alexa computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources. The information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed, until, finally, we get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service.  The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and data obtained from other, diverse traffic data sources, and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). As a first step, Alexa computes the reach and number of page views for all sites on the Web on a daily basis.”
