Welcome to Volume VIII of the Top 100 Travel blogs! I know! I know! It’s been beyond ages since I finally update the Top 100. Instead of giving you a laundry list of excuses as to why it’s taken such a long time, I’m going to attempt to never let it slide this long again. When an update hasn’t been completed for nearly half a year significant changes have taken place. There are a plethora of new blogs that have been added to the list. There are some rising stars and some fading stars, in terms of where travel blogs appear to be trending.
My blog is about to turn two years old and it’s crazy to think that I’m now considered a veteran travel blogger. Grizzled and all, I’ve really come to understand the life cycle of travel blogs over these past 23 months. It’s a heck of a daunting task trying to keep up a travel blog consistently on a day by day, week by week, month by month basis. For those who have done this the rewards are immense and you’ll be hard pressed to find a travel blog in the top 10 – or even top 20 – that isn’t consistently updating their site.
In terms of metrics performance Alexa and Moz (formerly SEOmoz) have not been kind to us travel bloggers. Since late last November, sites in general have taken a general dip in Moz scores and there are now only a handful of travel blogs that feature sub 100,000 Alexa scores. I suppose a correction was in order considering the constant climb travel blogs (and other sites) were making from early 2012 until near the end of the year. On this particular update I’ve tracked 184 sites meaning every category is now ranked out of a possible 184 points all the way down to 1. The theoretical maximum amount of points (if a site was to lead in all three categories) is 552 this time around.
Top Performers Shout Outs!
Normally I feature travel blogs that have rocketed up the list in terms of recent performance; however, given that I haven’t updated this list – for what seems to be an eternity – coupled with the plethora of new sites on this recent update, I’m going to just feature all of the newcomers instead. I’d like to welcome, in no particular order, Don’t Stop Living, Young Adventuress, Fearful Adventurer, Time Travel Turtle, Traveling with Sweeney,Vagabond Journey, Solo Friendly, LL World Tour, Wandering Educators, 1 Dad 1 Kid 1 Crazy Adventure and the Expeditioner.
