Holiday Ideas for Phuket

Phuket is world renowned for its postcard perfect beaches, and travellers from far and wide come to this island in search of their own idyllic tropical setting. Whether you’re a first time visitor or a seasoned traveller who is coming back for another taste of Thailand, here are a few ideas of things to do on your Phuket holidays:

Watch some muay thai

If you’ve hung around Phuket for a few days, it’s likely that you’ve heard vans driving by promoting the next Thai boxing match. Muay thai is a combat sport from the muay martial arts of Thailand. It is known as “the art of eight limbs” because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet. Matches take place between locals and even foreigners trained in this art. If you’re not too squeamish, it’s worth attending a match.

Visit the nearby islands

While Phuket’s beaches are pretty stunning, there are plenty of nearby islands worth exploring. You can easily take a day trip to Ko Phi Phi or some of the other lesser known islands for a change of scenery. Some tours include snorkelling and a barbecue at the beach, so it makes for a nice day out.

Surf the best beaches

If you’re a surfer, there are five different surfing spots you’ll want to check out while at Phuket. These include Kamala Beach, Surin Beach, Nai Harn Beach, Kalim Beach, and Kata Beach. No one can agree on which is the ‘best’ surf spot as they are each special in their own way, but regardless of where you end up, the waters are warm and the waves inviting. Also, if you travel during the off season, you can still score some waves but save a whole lot of the board rental.

  1. says: Rent Villa Phuket

I also would like to recommend to check Old Phuket Town. There is an amazing Sino-Portuguese architecture, lots of local restaurants and pubs around. Also it’s a good opportunity to meet with some real Thai people unlike in Patong. People are really sincere in Phuket Town. Great article Samuel.
