The Cypriot resort of Ayia Napa is most widely associated with its dance clubs and all-night bars, but each year during late August another, tougher form of music takes over. This is when the Ayia Napa Youth Festival comes to town, bringing some of the best local and international rock and metal acts to the southern side of Cyprus for two days of ear-splitting fun!
Inspired by the sun-drenched music festivals of countries like Spain and Croatia, the Ayia Napa Youth Festival has become a roaring success already as the headliners are voted for by the public – so the rockers of Cyprus can enjoy the bands that they really want to see.
Bands that have already performed at the Ayia Napa Youth Festival include Stratovarius and Sabaton, among a number of other Cyprus-based bands and big names from across Europe. However the 2012 edition of the festival on the 24th and 25th August was almost certainly the best one yet, with Neon Knights, Cyprus’ most famous metal band headlining the festival, much to the delight of the thousands of young rock music fans in attendance.
Extreme Fun
It’s not just music at the Ayia Napa Youth Festival though, as at this years’ event ticketholders were also treated to a drift car show and motocross bikes display which appealed to the crowds’ extreme sides. A beer festival was also held inside the festival arena, which thanks to the hot sun and high action was packed with people in need of refreshment throughout the weekend.!
Once the festival was over, the crowds dispersed into the clubs and bars of Ayia Napa to enjoy some great after-parties, many of which spilled out onto the resorts’ beaches and lasted until dawn.
Clearly the Ayia Napa Youth Festival is one to watch, so why not take a cheap flight to Cyprus next summer for the festival with a low-cost airline like Jet2.com. Their flights to Cyprus start from just £56 one way including taxes, so you’ll have plenty of cash left over to make the most of that beer festival.
